Using a handheld computer (PDA) for household contents valuation Howshold is designed to help the user build up an accurate inventory of household or office contents for the purpose of insurance evaluation or in preparation for moving to new premises. The data collected is sufficiently detailed to form the basis of an accurate removals quotation. The application comprises of two software programs, one designed to be run on a handheld computer - currently PalmOS, but a PocketPC version is under development - the other on a Windows-based PC. The use of a handheld computer (PDA) module greatly simplifies the process of gathering data at times that are convenient to the user. The Windows-based software provides a means to manage the PDA data, print reports and customise the default look-up data (e.g. room names, types of room content, etc.). By associating standard room names with typical default room contents, the PDA program enables even the most varied of household/office inventories to be entered quickly with a minimum of manual entry. These default room names and contents can be customised with the Windows software. There is a sophisticated multiple building version of Howshold available. This product, Ft3, was designed specifically for the furniture removals industry.
